Love this gun. We just passed a law allowing concealed carry in Wisconsin so I needed a new gun for CC. While researching I found the Ruger LCP. LCP stands for lightweight compact pistol... and they got that right. Designed for CC. First time on the range I shot 3 different brands: Blazer FMJ, American Eagle FMJ and Federal JHP. No misfires or cycling issues at all. In fact the first 3 American Eagle rounds were bullseyes from 30 feet - nice surprise. Three things to get used to for experienced shooters. First, the grip is so short that your last finger does not touch the grip. But the gun needs to be small for concealability, and the gun does not recoil so much that you need a full grip. But for a better grip you can always swap the standard magazine baseplate for the fingerrest baseplate that is included. Second, the sights are so small that target acquisition is a bit more challenging. But I view the weapon as an emergency solution to a close proximity problem, where you simply point and shoot rather than aim and shoot. So the small sights are no big deal. Third, the trigger pull is longer than any other gun you own. The gun is also easy to field strip, clean and reassemble. Bottom line... love this gun.

Purchased this gun at a Gun Show in March 2011, it was on sale and got it for $265.00, took it to the range first day and fired 150 rounds with no problem, since then I have fired a total of about 450 rounds, it will eat anything except the Sellier Belloit brand ammo, anything else it likes. I use it for CCW, wouldn''t trade or sell it, I have since put a Crimson Trace laser on it since they are giving a $50.00 rebate on the laser, don''t get much better than this, great pocket pistol with Mag Tech JHP''S, it will do the job if called on and the laser makes it look more intimidating . Check one out for yourself

Nice little pocket gun. Little hard to hold onto if you have big hands but will be a very nice off duty gun for the warm weather. Sights are small but ok, For the average person I recommend the laser grip.

Ruger's New LCP Pistol
By Gunner
Review Date: 02/08/2008

I just got back from the Shot Show in Las Vegas and I was fortunate enough to handle The new LCP 380 Auto from Ruger Arms. At first glance LCP looks very similar to the Kel-Tec P3AT pistol but upon further inspection there are some differences in construction and features that I think are an improvement over the Kel-Tec. Most important is the slide lock on the Ruger LCP. This allows the user to lock the slide to the rear when the LCP is loaded or unloaded. I really like this feature for the safety aspect and because it operates similar to the other firearms I own making training easier. The ergonomics on the Ruger Arms LCP are nicer than the Kel-Tec and the grip feels more like a gun that a deck of playing cards. The lightness and compact size mean this will be a gun that is so easy to carry one could easily forget they have it, which could be it’s only drawback. I have been considering the Kel-Tec for some time now for my wife but the Ruger Arms LCP looks to be a better built gun and seeing as how price will be in a similar range I would rather purchase from Ruger Arms. All the Ruger Arms rifles and pistols I own have always been reliable and accurate and I see no reason why this pistol should be any different.

I agonized over the caliber vs. carrying concealed. I had a sub-compact XD-40 and it was too heavy and wide. For carrying in my pocket it is the best weapon on the market! I've fire over a 100 rounds of Winchester FMJ and hollow points not a single malfunction. This is the first pistol my wife ever fired, even with the small sights her first four shot were in a 4" group at 7 yards!!! Love it!!! I won't carry anything else concealed!!!

After recently attending the NRA convention in Louisville, KY (May 2008) I was able to handle several of these small pistols. I have been considering the purchase of a small pistol for concealed carry, but the Kel-Tec didn't grab my interest, and I didn't like the feel of it. My experience with Ruger goes back 30+ years, and their quality coupled with customer support was important in my decision. This firearm has several unique features over Kel-Tec such as a slide lock, ergonomical feel to the grips, and improved styling. The only thing that is lacking are the inadequate sights on the released model. At the show one Ruger rep showed my an LCP with 3 point night sights - this is what I recommend you order even if there would be an extra cost.

Why would you want sights???
By Montecristo
Review Date: 05/28/2008

Why would you want sights on ole Elsey?? Her purpose is not for shooting down range. She's for reminding some gentleman of his manners when he is in your face, not for a down range fight-- there are other pistols for that purpose. I acquired one of the first of Elsey in Dallas-- shoots very well as a particularly small concealable pistol. But this pistol lacks sight for a reason. If you want sights, you want a bigger pistol for another purpose.

While loitering in the gun shop, I asked about the new LCP. Of course, they did not have one... The backorder is horrendous. But another customer happened to be carrying and let me handle his LCP. I compared it to the Kel-Tec and there was no comaprison at all. The Ruger is a firearm, the Kel-Tec is a capgun. Fit and finish is superb, ergonomics are great even for a large hand. While I've not fired it yet, I liked it so much I put my name on the backorder list. After I finally get one and fire it, I'll post another review.

I have finally found the weapon that I will take with me...every day...every where I go. It works great with shorts, carried in the pocket or tucked in a belly band. I have several pairs of shorts and pants with cargo pockets on the side...and there is no bagging or sagging if placed in a good non-mapping holster. I have had ZERO misfeeds or ejection problems. I like the Winchester white box...very little recoil...and very accurate at 7-15 yards. IF FINDING A FIREARM THAT YOU WILL CARRY ALWAYS...THE RUGER LCP is the answer to your dreams.

Awesome little pocket pistol. Looks identical to the Kel Tec 380 PAT that I also have but has a lot more qulaity and balance. Very loud handgun (as expected for small frame 380. Nice fit and finish, Ruger quality and much easier to rock the slide back than the Kel Tec. Much improved trigger pull as well. This is a keeper. I ordered two LCP 380''s and they arrived in two months.

At about 400 rounds of FMJ and JHP, various brands without any failures of any kind. Added Pierce grip extensions to mags which gives me just enough to hold onto. My son has a DB 380 which I like as well, but for deep conceal I like the Ruger better. The lines are a bit more rounded and smoother than the DB. DB has better sights, but at SD ranges sights are not my biggest concern. The DB has only had a couple of FTEs and my son has put about 500 or so rounds through it.
I also have a Kel-Tec PF9 and that is the reason why I did not even consider the Kel-Tec 380. PF9 - mags dropping out when shooting, and it has the newer metal mag release. PF9 - Firing pin popped out at the range. PF9 - 8 weeks at Kel-Tec for service, yes 8 weeks. I only had the PF9 for a few months and then it spent 3 months at Kel-Tec! Upon return from Kel-Tec I went to the range with my son, we traded shooting and loading mags and put about 300 rounds of FMJ through it and a few +P JHPs. I had two mag drops and he had one mag drop.
Sorry to turn this into a PF9 review, just venting. The LCP is great, I would recommend the Ruger LCP without any hesitation at all. My son has not admitted it yet, but I think he likes the LCP over his DB 380.

Hello everyone.I go to a local indoor range ]Mile High Firearms-great shop[ here in Prescott, Arizona. By the way any Ruger stamped with a Capital P is made in my town. My new Ruger LCP .380 shoots very well. No malfunctions. I use Brazillian MagTec for practice $13.80 bx, and Remington 102 grain brass shell Golden Saber Hollow Point for carry. At 7 yards I shoot a nice tight group. I did have to get used to the long pull, but that is a good thing-you can back off if the intrusion stops. I also must cup my weak hand under my grip hand when shooting or my trigger finger brushes against my weak hand thumb. That was an easy adjustment.I bought two holsters, one is a regular on the hip w/extra magazine slot for going to the range. I also bought a nylon pancake for concealed, but to my surprise one day I had the gun in the pancake and slipped it in my front right pocket, and it works great in a pair of wranglers ]fairly big pocket[. Holds my Ruger LCP .380 in good draw position and very comfortable]I leave the strap off and tuck it in the belt strap[, so I can use it as a pocket or pancake in the small of the back. I carry often but always in Phoenix, Tucson, and Yuma Arizona] old hometown 22 miles from Mex.[. Honestly I''ve never had any provocation which is a good thing. There are very very low sights which work well, so the weapon does not snag as you draw it out of your draw location. I looked at the Smith but the front sight was too tall. In a pressure siuation I want my LCP drawn and punched at the threat''s center mass in one second. I feel safe with no safety because the trigger pull is long. I can recommend this weapon with confidence. I am saving to buy another Ruger soon a P-85 mm with stainless slide. I like the feel. I was going to buy a Hi Point for the price and fact they are ugly but dependable but geez it is unbelieveably top heavy ] good night stand weapon or in your vehicle-thats it[. I would go hand feel all the compact carry weapons, and get the one that feels good to you, check reviews that is vital. In closing, my LCP shoot well, smooth, reliable, and so light to carry. I really like it, and not just because it is made here in Prescott, Arizona. Thank you-be sure to register on this sight-maybe you''ll win a cool weapon.Robert,Prescott, AZ.
P.S. just remember the mass killing in Carson City, Nv at the IHOP restaurant-if you or I would have had a carry weapon we could have survived and saved others. It makes me sick to my stomach to think of innocent citizens gunned down by a mentally unstable man while they sat eating their breakfast. God Bless them, and the U.S.A,-remember 9/11 is in a few days-we are a nation blessed with the right to bear arms in our Constitution-99.9 of us are responsible citizens- be ready for that .01 who are irresponsible or dangerous.

For concealed carry, the Ruger LCP has really impressed me. At short range it does everything my 9mm would do, but weighs in at less than ten ounces and takes up a bunch less space. The day I bought it, I popped off over 300 various rounds ]includung +P hollowpoints[ through the LCP... no jams. With the laser sight this little gun is very versital and accurate ]If you buy the LCP, get the Crimson Trace laser, about $200.00 additional... it really makes this little gun![ I''ve shot many other 380s, and the LCP feels very solid for a $300.00 gun, great quality and I expect it will last a life time. If I could only own one handgun, the LCP would be my choice.

I really like how easy this pistol is to conceal. Pocket holster is easy draw. I pratice with this weapon on a regular basis. I live in a country setting, so its easy for me to be walking along and practice drawing and firing. The only thing I am not to happy about, is that it hurts my hand when I shoot. 3 rounds and my hand feels it. I am hoping to find some type of rubber finger grip that might help cushion. Overall, everyone needs one of these! Im thinking about buying another one. Im really not too worried about the hand problem, would rather have a hurt hand than serious bodily injury or death.

I picked up my LCP on May Day. It is absolutely THE best "pocket gun" on the market! Superior in every way to the competition. This gun is what the Kel-Tec P-3AT could have been, but isn't. With typical Ruger quality and reliability, Ruger will sell a lot of these guns. They may be a bit hard to get now, but I guarantee that it's worth the wait. :)

I have being carrying a Sig .380 for my personal carry gun but it still was a bit to bulky for my likes. So I found that I carried less and less and my gun stayed home more and more. I have had the Ruger LCP .380 for about 2 months now and I have carried it every day since I bought it. I carry it in a Blackhawk hoster in my front right pocket and dont even know its there. I just love this gun! It shots very well out to 7 yards and is easy to carry and draw from my front pocket. No jams or problems at the range so far and it is easy to field strip and clean. I may upgrade to laser but I''m not sold on it as of yet. Great personal carry gun for men or women. I would give it 5 stars if they made it in single action. Buy it! You carry it and love it!

I love this LCP it''s simplicity and size really are the main selling points. However, you must definitely keep it oiled and cleaned. And yes, due to the size of the firearm your hand will hurt a little after shooting...my solution: go buy a golf or batting glove. Either offer plenty of grip and cushion. Otherwise, just make sure the ammo you purchase has a rounded tip ]I like the Pow-r-Ball for defense & regular ball point for range[, and have fun.

Initial reaction using the finger extension was very positive. Great jam-free functionality with controllable recoil. Easy to breakdown for cleaning. Perfect size / weight for a carry weapon. I quickly realized that as a daily carry, it requires wiping the slide regularly with an oily cloth to prevent surface rust. Ruger''s choice of a ferrous alloy slide instead of stainless is a big negative. If your considering it for carry, forget a belt holster and stick with a pouch that will keep it away from any exposure to perspiration or for that matter any moisture. I''ve now switched to a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard which has a stainless slide. Give it some thought before buying.

I carry a variant of the LCP almost 24/7/365. I was introduced to the LCP as a plain blued slide model. Then, I bought the scroll-work engraved slide version for a more stylish carry. And, lastly I bought the Coyote Special / True Texan model as a novelty collectible as well as for daily carry. Any model with the 371 prefix serial number has no issues. The problematic ones had a 370 prefix. But, even those have been retrofitted by now. The Ruger LCP is a fine lightweight and very satisfactory concealed carry piece or LE hide-a-way backup. I recommend it.

Purchased this LCP because of its size vs caliber for CC. Fits nicely into a wallet holster and is lightweight and low profile. I compared it to the Kel-Tek P-3AT which seemed to be of lesser quality, but now wish that I had researched more. The sights are small and very difficult to put on target and combined with the loooong trigger pull make shooting small patterns very difficult. Having said that, still not a bad little gun for CC and self defense.

This review may be a bit premature.
.380 ammo seems near impossible to obtain.
This is not my first Ruger firearm. Like many, I have several thousand rounds through my 10/22, and several hundred through my Mark II.
I also own a LCR. Still getting used to firing a compact.
Most of my pistol shooting is with a 1911 or Glock 21, and recently aSpringfield XD45.
Hope to try it soon.

Handled one yesterday at a nearby Pawn shop selling new guns. This is it, my long search is over for what it is, and it is. I am sold! But, haven''t actually bought it yet. So,how can you tell if you are looking at a 2nd Generation model? Blogs above suggest that the change came on or around Jul. 20, 2008 if so what changes occured. Many blogs above spoke of jamming and recalls, so is it fixed and if so what serial number do we start with to avoid broken triggers and or jamming problems? Would love to see a response to above questions. Also, saw one comment that a night sight equiped model was shown at an NRA show. Is this option available? Thanks for your reply.

My Ruger LCP fired Winchester White Box, Winchester Silvertip and Corbon hollowpoint ammo without fail. The sights are shallow but usable. Super small design, but it works even with my large hands. Ruger is going to sell very, very many of these.

The Ruger LCP .380 appears to be a worthwhile investment for a small, thin and easy to conceal semi-auto. The first trip the range was uneventful. Fired approximately 100 rounds with both standard and +P ammunition and had one malfunciton (stovepipe - failure to fully eject) near the end of the test firing. The weapon has an extremely smooth but long trigger pull. Trigger finger placement is best when you use the end of your fingertip. Depressing the trigger near the end of the first digit requires you to compress your finger so far that the fingertip is practically touching the grip before the weapon fires. As mentioned in earlier reviews, it isn't a target weapon and is for defensive, short-range use only. For that purpose, this weapons should serve well. I just wish it had come with two magazines.

I just bought a new Ruger LCP and I must say it is a joy to carry, and to shoot. This is a handgun that can easily be concealed, even in a shirt, or pants pocket. Ruger has given us the right gun, at the right time, and the right price. At $249.99 it is a bargain, and a quality gun as well.
I highly recommend you pick one up. You won't be sorry...

Just got my new "Elsie Pea" yesterday. Brought it home and swabbed off the half pint of grease and oil it came immersed in and headed for the range. Fired 100 rounds of Winchester FNJ's and 50 rounds of American Eagle FMJ's without a single hiccup. Accuracy out to 15 yards was surprising for the little girl and recoil is extremely manageable, even though I can only get 1 and 1/2 of my fat little fingers on the grip. Mine is a 2nd generation, so there is no evidence of the peening on the frame some of the 1st generation pistols had. Ruger has now fixed that problem by machining out the area that was having the problem. I'm waiting for some HP ammo to try, as no one in my area carries anything other than paper punchers in .380, but I'm sure they'll function fine, too. This is a high quality, well built pocket pistol that will follow me everywhere as soon as I get some adequate ammo. To all of you whining about Ruger "ripping off" Kel-tec...It ain't even close...like comparing a Lexus to a Yugo!!!

I picked mine up today at Cabela's for 299.00 it has a slide lock. Fit and Finish looks to be great. Feels solid on pulling slide back. This gun is so small it's not much biiger than a pack of cig's. The barrel seams a bit thin but that might just be me being use to springfield and glock 45's. Although knowing it's a ruger I feel confident if this ever becomes an issue they will be there for me. A+ for making something small enough to put in a pocket and really leaves hardly a trace of anything in my pocket.
I think the big lock they give you with the gun will work better on my motorcycle front disc the lock is bigger than the gun but a very nice lock.

comparing the LCP and Kel-Tec P3at

I have two Kel-Tec P3at's and one Ruger LCP. Carried the KT for 3 years & $40k + miles. Ruger evolved from the Kel-Tec but they are NOT the same! I bought a boatload of .380 ammo and tried each until I was sure a load would work. When the right load is found, these pistols work 100% with a FIRM hand hold. The pistols HATE some loads! You must test each load to trust your life to these little shooters!
Differences: Extractor- KT flat spring steel, R- coil spring loaded steel block. Mags do not interchange as the locking notch differs. Mag bases differ a little, too. Mag cost R- $27, KT- $14. Trigger guard R- Thin, KT- thick. Both- Locked breech which is unusual and very high tech for a pocket pistol! Both come with one mag and a zipper pouch. Manual slide stop R- yes, KT- no. Neither hold slide open at last shot.
Price actually paid- R $329, KT $235. Some assembly pins differ on each. Serial # R- cast into frame, KT- engraved on back piece. Ruger grip feels a bit more solid and finer finish on casting.

Have had it for about two weeks. Run about 200 rounds through it. It likes ball ammunition but fails to feed with hollow point. Slide just doesn't go quite to battery. I bought an extra magazine - it comes with only one - and it is the same. Leaves the cases with a dent from the bottom of the chamber/top of feed ramp. Carries easy and is very light. Trigger is long and heavy but shoots accurate if I do my part. This is a tilt-barrel locking breech pistol - not a blowback design. Should deal well with +P or +P+ ammunition.

I had been waiting for a company to produce a .380 auto that I could depend on. Heard too many stories about the Keltecs & wasn''t about to buy one. Just bought two of the Ruger LCPs with 4 extra mags. Took my wife out shooting last weekend and put about 100 rounds through them. Not one jam or misfeed. Excellent pistols. Have had Glocks for many years, but am thoroughly impressed with the Rugers. Would reccommend this weapon with no reservations.

Purchased new LCP and took it to the range for a test run. Shot ball and my own hand loads through it without a hitch. Did my departmental 50 round duty qualification with Federal hollow points. The pistol ran great. I was able to keep all but one round on a 9 by 11 target insert shooting out to 25 yards. I'm pretty happy with this one. It will replace the Kel Tec 32.

This is my second post about this pistol. In the first, we compared the Keltec P3AT and Ruger LCP. Now, I've carried the Ruger for over a month and have range tested it.
I had a buttload of .380 ammo from testing the two Keltecs. The Ruger ate all of it without a problem. Aguilla ammo, which was several years old, provided a misfire but that's it. No failures of any kind attributed to the pistol!
I carry using Federal personal defense 90 grain hollow point loads and they feed perfectly. From the scary end of the barrel, they are some ugly little pills.
I'm a big guy and have hands the size of hams. I have no problem shooting this pistol accurately or hanging on to it. The LCP is a winner in all categories! get one....get two. Yup, they're a bit pricey but you get value for your money. You can trust this little buddy to be there for you.
The ONLY beef I have is that if you hit a dud round, you can't just squeeze the trigger again. The slide must be racked back for another try.

Bought it for a backup and off-duty. Off-duty, I usually just throw it in my pocket with the chamber empty. Pulled the slide back to chamber one and the shell wouldn't feed. Then it happened over and over again (tried two different kinds of ammo). Haven't shot it on the range much, but haven't had any problems when actually shooting it. Pretty disappointed with the LCP after all the great things I heard.

WHILE ORIGINALLY ON A 4 MONTH WAITING LIST I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO FIND ONE LOCALLY AFTER ABOUT A MONTH. THE DAY I PURCHACED IT I REALIZED THAT RUGER SENT OUT A RE-CALL NOTICE. I WAS QUITE DISAPPOINTED, HOWEVER AFTER SPEAKING TO CUSTOMER SERVICE, THEY TEMPORARILY PUT MY MIND AT EASE. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO FIRE 50 ROUNDS OF BLAZER BRASS HARDBALL THROUGH SO FAR WITH PRETTY GOOD RESULTS. AFTER ABOUT 25 ROUNDS ONLY ONE SPENT SHELL CASE FAILED TO EJECT. I WAS FIRING THE GUN WEAK HAND AT THE TIME, SO IT MAY HAVE BEEN MY FAULT. THE REST OF THE ROUNDS FIRED WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. ACCURACY WAS VERY GOOD OUT TO 25 YDS, BUT THE SIGHTS COULD USE SOME HELP ESPECIALLY IN A LOW LIGHT SITUATION. I HAVE PLANS TO CARRY THIS AS MY BACK-UP GUN. HOPEFULLY IT IS AS RELIABLE AS MY GLOCK 23 WHICH IS MY CURRENT OFF DUTY CARRY.

11/2/08 I heard great things about this gun and happened to get lucky with snatching it up at a local gun shop. I picked up some magtech 95gr FMC's and went to the shooting range. I ran 50 rounds through it flawlessly. At fist the slide didnt seem to want to close completely but i found that if you pull it back firmly and release it with full force it will close. I recently purchased the Remington goldensabers and have not shot those yet but have found that the slide will jam open if the slide is not released properly. Hope the new recall will fix the problems. Still happy to own!

Received the gun back from Ruger two full months after sending it in for repair. They had the pistol repaired but were holding it for the parts to come in to do the recall work before sending it back. Took it to the range Saturday and put 100 round of Winchester White Box FMJ, 50 rounds of Remington FMJ, and 50 rounds of Wolf FMJ through it. At the end, I fired 12 rounds (2 mags) of MagTech 90 grain JHP's through it to see how it liked the hollow point. It ate it all without a single glitch. Not a single fail to fire, which is surprising considering the Wolf isn't the best stuff on the market. I was expecting some problems with it. But it shot it all without any problems. I disassembled it after each box to check it for problems and to see how dirty it was. No problems until I fired the Wolf ammo. It was the last to go through the gun, and by far the dirtiest. I am very pleased with the results of the work Ruger did to fix it. The little gun is a lot of fun to shoot when it works like it's supposed to.
I think the only thing keeping me from giving it a five star rating is the fact that it doesn't have a hold open on empty magazine feature.

I bought the .380 Ruger LCP & fired same. Good results, feels good in the hand, & carries easily. I would like to commend the Ruger Company for it's standing behind it's product. My LCP was on the recall list, so I contacted Ruger's Customer Service. I was told that I would receive a shipping packet, & My LCP would be picked-up by UPS, & it was. The shipping was by one-day air. Exactly one week later I got the LCP back, with the modification, a handy new e-z grip magazine, a beautiful Ruger LCP ballcap, & believe it or not a letter of appology for my 'Inconvenience'. All I can say is "What a wonderful company". Ruger sure stands behind it's products.

Worth the small price, if you need to carry it I worn you you wont even know you have it.

I would have the feature removed as it is useless.

Ruger LCP .380

9-4-2008 My daughter and I bought 2 LCP's this past weekend. We went to put some rounds through them to test em. We were shooting Magtech FMJ, 95gr. We also shot Winchester FMJ, 95gr, plus Remington JHP (Hollow Point), 90 gr. My daughters gun had two - failure to eject and two - jams between the 40th and 60th rounds. Then the trigger mechanism broke. Most of the rounds were HP with some FMJ mixed in. We're not sure but wonder if the trigger mechanism going bad may have had something to do with the jamming. We shot about 150 rounds through my gun, with about 60 of those being HP and the other 90 being FMJ. We did regular fire and rapid fire trying to see if the gun would jam. My pistol never missed a beat. I had a hard time hitting a 4" target at 4 yards but consistently put them in a 12" area at that distance. Again, this is a close quarters weapon. I'm 6'-1" at 207lbs. The gun handled well in my hand. I only had 1 1/2 fingers on the handle with my pinky finger tucked under the magazine but the gun remained solid in my hand. I like the longer, stiffer trigger pull and view it as a fair Safety. One gun worked, one didn't. If my daughters gun malfunction is a fluke, then this is a good CC gun. Jury is still out that until we get it back and put more rounds through them. Gun purchased at Cabella's for $299.00 We both like the gun.

Ruger LCP Problem Follow-up
By Blackhorse
Review Date: 10/14/2008
Rating:
Actually not a follow up from the initial testing of my daughter's LCP as it is still at the factory getting repaired. However, family purchased me one for my birthday and I took it to the range Saturday with 100 rounds of Winchester White Box hardball ammo. Not expecting to have much luck and was wondering how many rounds I'd get through before I threw it in the trash. To my surprise I fired all 100 rounds without a single malfunction. Granted it was a mimimul test considering only 1 brand of ammo and all hardball, but was very impressed with the functioning and accuracy of the little gun. Even had two magazines, and they both worked flawlessly. Given the problems I had with my daughters, and the complete opposite results I had with mine, while it will make a fine backup piece, I would only recommend it after it's been thoroughly tested with the defensive rounds you're going to carry in it. That means putting it through it's paces with 200 + rounds without any malfunctions. Obviously, hardball ammo is good for range, but for carry/protection, it's UNACCEPTABLE in a round of this size. I've carried it to get use to the feel and placement and it fits great in a pant holster and drops right in my shorts cargo pocket. But my G30 still rides in the IWB holster until I'm convinced the Ruger will do the job. Even then, the Ruger will never replace the .45 caliber round, it's just that I'll be able to carry it anywhere I wouldn't be able to carry the bigger G30. Maybe a good backup for my backup.
